River cycling tours
Experience new riverbanks by bike. Several river landscapes run through the Augsburg region, which can be experienced on the Zusamradweg, the Lechradweg and the Wertachradweg.
The long-distance cycle route Lechradweg leads along the river Lech - one of the last wild rivers in Europe. The path stretches over 244 kilometres.
On three stages of life and in five stages, the Lech Cycle Path leads through landscapes that could not be more different. On its banks, you can see how it has shaped nature and created the most diverse habitats. You start in Marxheim near Donauwörth and cycle in stages all the way to Tyrol. The largest section is in the Augsburg region.
We wish you a wonderful (life) journey - full of inspiring moments on the "Lechradweg - Follow the River of Life"!
With the digital travel assistant, you can inform yourself about the Lech during your tour. You will not only learn about the history of the river but also about its creatures in the water and on land.
The long-distance cycle route "Experience Wertach" leads along the river Wertach, which enchants with its proximity to nature and diverse landscape forms. The path stretches over 145 kilometres.
You will discover much of the southern part of the Augsburg region and also pass through many other districts and towns. Along the way you will find idyllic nature, ornate churches and special sights.
You start in the Allgäu Alps and cycle in stages all the way to Augsburg. The long-distance cycle route "Experience the Wertach" often takes you along unspoilt paths, allowing you to discover the natural area of the Wertach and its banks.
With the app "Wertach.Natur" you can inform yourself about the Wertach valley, the alluvial forest, fish ladders or Alpine alluvial fans during your tour.
The winding Zusam is ideal for a leisurely multi-day tour. On 130 km you follow the meandering river through the green landscape.
You decide whether you prefer to start from Kaufbeuren with the sun behind you or cycle towards the mountains from Donauwörth.
The Zusam cycle path forms a connection between the northern Danube cycle path and the cycle paths in the Augsburg area on a mostly flat or gently sloping route.
One of the highlights of the route is the pilgrimage site of Maria Vesperbild in Ziemetshausen. A Way of the Cross leads from the pilgrimage church through a beech forest to the Marien Grotto, where the Fatima Madonna can be admired. More than half a million pilgrims come here every year.
