Monastery Mill Museum Thierhaupten
Beschreibung
Today, the Monastery Mill Museum illustrates the workings of these four mills under one roof: at the push of a button, the model of a "German sawmill" starts moving. A terrain model shows how water power was used to supply the monastery with drinking water. An oil tamper, press and heating furnace illustrate the work in an oil mill. An old German stone grinding mill, which was used for centuries to grind grain, is contrasted with mill technology in the 20th century with transmission and cleaning, grinding and sieving equipment. A replica of a paper mill of yesteryear shows how a rag tamping mill works and how paper is made with a scoop screen. Water power is still used today to drive a stamping mill during demonstrations and to generate electricity for the mill museum.
At the monastery mill museum, a covered bread hut invites museum visitors to linger, and a large meadow is available for romping and playing. The well-signposted mill path from the Klostermühlenmuseum along the Friedberger Ach to the former Benedictine monastery is an informative walk in the footsteps of the Thierhaupten millers (about 20 minutes' walk).
