The pilgrimage church of St. Michael in Violau, built by 1619, is one of the most important rural churches of the Elias-Holl period around Augsburg. The interior of the former patronage church of the Oberschönenfeld monastery was redesigned in rococo style by 1757. A macabre sight is the so-called Johannesschüssel. The church is charmingly embedded in the hilly foothills of the Alps.
