Beschreibung
Tradition names Tassilo III - who was the last Bavarian tribal duke until 787 - as the founder of the monastery in Thierhaupten, which came into being in the middle of the 8th century. The former monastery church of St. Peter and Paul is essentially a Romanesque building which, like the earlier monastery buildings, was remodelled in the Baroque style. The Benedictine abbey was secularised in 1803. In the nearby Thierhaupten Monastery Mill Museum, three grinding mills and a rag pounding mill are on display under the roof of the former monastery mill on the Friedberger Ach.
